Clive Fire Department Injury Awareness and Prevention Carnival

The Clive Fire Department is hosting an injury awareness and prevention carnival from noon to 5 p.m. Saturday in honor of Emergency Medical Services Week.

Events will be at the Clive Aquatics Center, 1801 N.W. 114th St., and include a texting/impaired driving course, a bicycle safety rodeo, child car seat safety checks, and home and community pool water safety.

CPR classes will be offered every 45 minutes in the special events center. The aquatics staff will be working on their annual lifeguard training, including rescue drills that integrate with the 911 system and ambulance response.

Life Flight and the Iowa Air Guard will have helicopters on display. The LifeServe blood center bloodmobile will be on hand for walk-in donors.

Admission is free; there will be door prizes and a raffle drawing.

The Clive Firefighter’s Association will sell burgers and brats to help offset the cost of the department’s injury prevention programs.

The department also is hosting events this week at the Clive Fareway, 10151 University Ave. Free blood pressure checks will be available from 2 to 4 p.m. Thursday and May 23; no appointment is needed.

The HeartReach mobile lab also will be at Fareway from 7 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. May 23; call the fire department at 223-1595 for an appointment.
